Traffic Control Person/Signallers Course

The NB Safety Council Inc. delivers this public safety program entitled 'Traffic Control Person/Signallers Course'. This course was developed by a Provincial Committee with representatives from the Department of Transportation, Workplace Health Safety Compensation Commission of New Brunswick (WHSCC), the NB Safety Council and Industry.

This 1/2-day training program will benefit those responsible to control traffic through construction or other sites where the normal flowof traffic is affected. It's objectives are three fold: to teach and train the traffic control person in the proper methods and techniques of stopping, slowing and directing traffic; to make them aware of the potential hazzards of poor traffic control procedures including death and injuries to the travelling public, fellow workers and themselves; and thirdly; to reduce the possibility of damage to equipment, vehicles and materials.

Topics covered by the TRAFFIC CONTROL PERSON/SIGNALLERS COURSE include:

  1. Importance of the Traffic Control person
  2. Personal Protective Equipment
  3. Signalling Procedures
  4. Proper Dress and Equipment for Daylight/Night-time
  5. Position of Signaller - Construction/Repair Sites
  6. Size and Type of Paddles
  7. Procedures to Stop, Slow and Direct Traffic
  8. General Instructions

Candidates are required to pass a written/oral Qualification Test (80%) demonstrating their knowledge and skills in stopping, slowing and directing traffic. Candidates will also be required to complete a three (3) day internship demonstrating the skills of Signalling.
