The NB Safety Council Inc. offers a one (1) day Industrial Accident Investigation Course. In this course participants gain the knowledge and skills required to properly investigate industrial accidents. The course will also present realistic, practical recommendations which will greatly reduce or eliminate industrial accidents at the workplace. The ultimate goal is to prevent accidents through the identification and implementation of recommended corrective actions.
Note: This is Module Three of the Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification Program
Note! The Council also offers a two-day AIC which offers practical hands on training for participants. It includes the one-day components plus the practical.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
This highly informative course covers sound, practical principals for investigating industrial accidents. Emphasis is placed on discovering the root causes of workplace accidents and developing realistic, workable measures to resolve them.

The course involves workshops, class discussion, role playing and use of audio visuals to present effective investigation techniques. Every effort will be made to address concerns specific to the participants' requirements. (This is Module Three leading to a JOHSC Certificate.)

  1. Accident / Incident - a definition
  2. Accident Investigation - a definition
  3. Benefits of Accident Investigations
  4. Investigative Techniques - ensuring that accident are reported, why accidents are not reported, supervisor's role, interviewing personnel, investigation kits, accident investigation checklist, analysis of cause - direct and indirect, remedial or preventive action, follow up steps
  5. Investigation Report Form - completing all sections, routing forms, follow-up on recommendations
